A modernized version of the best-selling Sparrow model! A compact survival and military backpack made of CORDURA 500D, derived from the popular, urban Raven model. The shape perfectly adapted to the back has been adapted to new applications - the main compartment (approx. 17 liters) can be fully packed with luggage of this volume. Access is provided by a zipper that unfastens the flap on three edges. New solutions:
- wider and longer transport handle moved from the back wall of the backpack to the middle of the upper part of the main compartment,
- in the main compartment, on the back wall, there are 4 D-rings that allow you to attach additional accessories,
- mesh pocket in the main compartment has been divided into two smaller ones, closed with a zipper,
- now, similarly to the main compartment, the zipper in the smaller compartment is unfastened to the lower edges of the backpack (previously to half),
- a wider strip covering the zipper of the main compartment,
- a strip covering the zipper of the smaller chamber (previously missing),
- slats covering the zipper of the flat front pocket (previously missing),
- modernized organizer located in a smaller chamber,
- covers of the profiled carrying system (including braces from the inside) made of compact, non-hooking material.
The inside of the backpack has a hook for the hydration system water bladder, a hole for the hose and two handles (one on the shoulder strap) for attaching it.
The lid has a flat pocket the size of the main compartment and about 4 cm thick - enough to hold maps, documents and even a small laptop. There is a small, flat pocket on the front of the flap. The front, bottom and side walls have sewn PALS (inch) straps of the MOLLE strapping system (a system of inch straps sewn every inch). They allow you to carry urgent need equipment outside the backpack, items too large to fit inside or additional pockets. The side walls also have two adjustable length straps fastened with 30 mm fastex buckles. They are used to compress the backpack (reducing its capacity taking into account the content) and can be useful for stable fastening of equipment carried outside - jackets, sheets, mats, and even camouflage mesh. The carrying system guarantees comfort and excellent back ventilation (ACS - Air Comfort System ) ensuring adequate stiffness of the backpack. The comfort of use is also influenced by quick-release profiled shoulder straps of adjustable length and a chest strap.
The MAPA camouflage pattern was designed by Maciej Dojlitko, a graduate and currently a researcher at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, the author of, among others, publication Theory of visual message deconstruction. Military camouflage design tools (Gdańsk 2015). The innovative project, supported by convincing theoretical and experimental arguments, including computer analysis of thousands of photographs of the terrain, drew the attention of specialists and manufacturers of military clothing. In 2017, the MAPA camouflage debuted at the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce as a camouflage pattern for the Dromader equipment and uniform system by Maskpol, which is part of the Polish Armaments Group. The system was created with the soldiers of the Territorial Defense Force in mind, but the MAPA camouflage itself was also considered as a prospective model for the entire Polish Armed Forces, where it could replace the wz.93 camouflage. Unfortunately, the MAP camouflage has not yet been implemented as an official camouflage pattern of the Polish Army.
The most important features of the MAP camouflage in the basic woodland variant:
- 6 colors creating layers resembling contour lines on a map,
- colors optimized for activities in the forests of Central Europe,
- the use of the illusion of three-dimensionality and the anamorphosis effect,
- biomorphic shapes resembling the pattern to vegetation,
- highly contrasting elements imitating light and shadows,
- deformation of the masked figure using a macro pattern,
- color noise reproduced with a micropattern.
The MAP pattern is an interesting alternative to the best, modern camouflage patterns such as PenCott, MultiCam, Kryptek, Flecktarn or Finnish M/05. In some respects it is more advanced than them, and also better reproduces the colors found in Central European forests in the period from late spring to early autumn.
The backpack is covered by a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.
